Your busy, I get it. You're trying to run an agency, take calls, clear emails, and have just as much going on at home. However, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) should be a top priority if you are trying to grow your agency. Take a minuet to learn a few things you can do today to improve your rank and get busier because ultimately that's what you want... Busy means more business.
1. Set up your Google My Business account. Google let's you list your business for free. When your clients and prospects search insurance agent in their area a map should show up. If you are on Google Business, this will literally put you on the map. This is a no-brainer. Hopefully you have already done this, but if not head over to Google My Business and set it up TODAY. They will need to call you or mail you a postcard to validate that you are a real business, but the process to set you account up should take no more than an hour.
2. Tune up your home page. I have reviewed hundreds of insurance agency sites. Some are good, most need work. You're not just building your website for your prospects and clients, but also for search engines. If you want to rank high, you're homepage needs to be very specific on the products and service you provide. Say you are a high net worth personal lines agency in New York City. You may have some commercial business standard personal lines, but your homepage should be geared to your main focus. Google is looking to point their users to websites that best fit the user's search. Way too many sites babble on about the hundreds of products and carriers they work with. STOP IT. Now, you may not be able to do this yourself today, but you can start today by contacting your website designer to get them working on streamlining your homepage.
3. Write Content. There is always time to squeeze in a blog entry on a specific coverage or product that will help you rank. If you don't have time, assign it to a new producer. It's a great way for them to learn a new topic and get used to content creation (proof read it when they're done of course!). The more you write, particularly the more you write on a specific topic, the better you will rank for that topic. Then your viewership with go up creating a snowball effect in which search engines will recognize your site as an authority on the topic. Writing about insurance in a way that buyers want to consume it is hard. It will take some time, but DO IT!
EXTRA CREDIT! If you're ambitious and were able to all the above or maybe you already had one or two done, then take some time for extra credit. Try getting a backlink to your account from a highly viewed site. Let's take the high net worth agency for example. You could offer to write an article about scheduled personal property insurance for a family office that only works with the affluent. Other businesses that have the same target audience as you are always looking for things to post on their website as well. By offering to write a unique piece for them it will build your relationship with that business, help them with their content, and get you a link back to your site. Google scores sites higher if they have quality backlinks from authoritative websites. Do Not buy cheap "backlink" offers that you probably get emails about. These fake links will actually hurt your rank more than help as Googlebots have gotten smart enough to recognize them.
